God Guides

SMITE 2 God Guides

Guides for 20 gods across 6 pantheons, organised by role. Each one covers what the kit is actually for, where it genuinely falls short, how to build it and why, and what beats it — written as reasoning you can argue with rather than a table of numbers you have to trust.

Hunters — Carry lane

Basic-attack damage that scales harder than anything else in the game, in exchange for the most fragile early game. A hunter's entire contribution is deferred — the job is surviving long enough to collect it.

How to use these guides

A god guide is most useful before you pick and after you lose, and least useful in the middle of a game. Read the strengths and weaknesses before adding a god to your pool — the weaknesses matter more, because they tell you which games this pick will not save. Read the counters section after a loss, because the answer to "why did that feel unwinnable" is usually in it.

The build sections deliberately describe item roles rather than naming a fixed shopping list. Specific items change every patch; the reasoning behind a build does not. A guide that tells you to buy penetration second because your damage arrives in many small ticks stays correct through a rebalance in a way that a named item order does not.

What the tier badges mean

Each guide carries a tier from S to C. That placement is an editorial judgement made against four published criteria — kit reliability, the counterplay cost imposed on opponents, what happens when the god's primary plan is denied, and how much the god depends on specific teammates. The full methodology, including what a tier does not tell you, is published on the tier list page.

Tier is not a recommendation. A B-tier god you have two hundred games on will out-perform an S-tier god you have never played, and comfort matters more than placement in nearly every ranked game.

Frequently asked questions

How many gods are covered in these guides?

We currently publish full guides for 20 gods across 6 pantheons. Each guide covers the kit's identity, honest strengths and weaknesses, build reasoning, counters, synergies and practical tips — written as explained judgement rather than as a stat table.

Why don't these guides show win rates?

Because we do not have access to match data and would have to invent the numbers. A fabricated percentage looks authoritative and is fiction, which is worse than no figure at all. Instead each guide explains the reasoning, which you can evaluate and disagree with.

Which god should I learn first in SMITE 2?

Pick a low-difficulty god in the role you want to learn, and stay on them for at least twenty games. Athena and Ares are forgiving supports, Bellona is a straightforward warrior, Anubis and Poseidon are accessible mages, and Thor is the most forgiving jungler. Consistency on one god teaches more than breadth across several.

How are gods grouped by role?

By the role their kit is built for and the lane they conventionally play: Guardians support, Mages take mid, Assassins jungle, Warriors solo, and Hunters carry. Gods can and do flex outside these, but the default pairing is what their kit and item scaling assume.
