Overview

Geb's shield is one of the most valuable single abilities in the game because it does two things at once: it shields an ally and removes crowd control from them. In a game where most deaths come from being locked down rather than from raw damage, an ability that undoes a stun is worth more than its numbers suggest. His ultimate deals damage based on the target's current health, which makes it an opening ability rather than a finisher — the opposite instinct to most ultimates, and the thing new Geb players get wrong most often.

Power spike

Level 5, plus his first aura item. Like most guardians his scaling comes from cooldowns and auras rather than personal stats.

Skill ceiling

Moderate to high. The shield timing — waiting for the stun rather than pre-shielding — is genuinely difficult under pressure and separates good Geb players from average ones.

Strengths and weaknesses

Every god guide here lists the weaknesses as prominently as the strengths, because the weaknesses are what tell you which games this pick will not rescue — and that is usually the more actionable half.

What Geb is genuinely good at

  • His shield cleanses crowd control, directly countering the most common way carries die.
  • His ultimate stuns an entire area and scales off current health, making it an excellent fight opener.
  • His roll is a genuine rotation tool, letting him move between lanes faster than most supports.
  • Strong into dive comps — he is built to undo exactly what they are trying to do.

Where Geb falls short

  • Low damage output, so he cannot pressure a passive lane.
  • His ultimate is much weaker as a finisher, which makes it feel unrewarding when used on instinct.
  • His roll is directional and committed — a mis-aimed engage leaves him deep with no exit.
  • Vulnerable to sustained damage that outlasts the shield rather than burst the shield absorbs.

Build and reasoning

Aura-first, as with every dedicated support guardian: his personal stats matter far less than the team-wide value of his items. Cooldown reduction is particularly valuable because his shield is a reactive ability — having it available for the second engage matters as much as having it for the first.

Core build path

These are item roles rather than fixed product names, because specific items are rebalanced every patch and the reasoning behind a slot is not. Match each role to whatever currently fills it best.

  1. 1 Support starter
  2. 2 Stacking health aura item
  3. 3 Physical protection aura
  4. 4 Magical protection aura
  5. 5 Crowd-control reduction
  6. 6 Late defensive utility

Situational purchases

Anti-heal aura
The enemy has meaningful sustain and nobody else on your team has bought it.
Protection-shred utility
Your team is magical-damage-heavy and needs the shred more than you need another aura.
Knockback immunity
You keep getting displaced out of range of the ally you are trying to shield.

For the reasoning behind these stats — why penetration outperforms power against a built target, why anti-heal has to be bought before it feels necessary — see the item and stat reference and build fundamentals.

Counters and synergies

What beats Geb

Sustained-damage comps
The shield absorbs a burst; it does not solve a fight that lasts twenty seconds.
Silences
Silencing Geb removes the cleanse, which is the one thing his team is relying on.
Long-range engage
He must be near his ally to help them, and pulling him away is enough to beat him.

What Geb works with

Immobile carries
Cleanse plus shield is the most reliable anti-dive package available to a hunter with no escape.
Follow-up area damage
His ultimate's area stun sets up any teammate with a large area ability.

Practical tips

  1. Save the shield for after the crowd control lands, not before. Its real value is the cleanse, and cleansing nothing wastes the ability.
  2. Open fights with your ultimate rather than closing them. It scales off current health, so it hits hardest against a full-health team.
  3. Use your roll for rotations, not just engages. Arriving at a fight first is often worth more than the damage on the roll.
  4. Stand between your carry and the jungle entrance. Geb's value is proximity, and being out of position makes his best ability unusable.
