Overview

Set's spawns are the mechanic that defines him. They are summoned minions that deal damage, but far more importantly they are teleport anchors — a Set who placed one behind the enemy has an engage angle from a direction they are not watching. This gives him the highest setup ceiling of any jungler and also the highest failure rate: a Set who places spawns badly has spent cooldowns on nothing. His ultimate turns him into a genuine duellist, which makes him unusually good at solo-killing an isolated opponent.

Power spike

His ultimate at level 5, then his first penetration item. His real spike, though, is the player's own familiarity with spawn placement.

Skill ceiling

Very high. Spawn placement gives Set more genuine decision depth than almost any other jungler, and the gap between competent and expert is large.

Strengths and weaknesses

Every god guide here lists the weaknesses as prominently as the strengths, because the weaknesses are what tell you which games this pick will not rescue — and that is usually the more actionable half.

What Set is genuinely good at

  • Spawn teleports create engage angles from directions the enemy is not defending.
  • His ultimate makes him a strong duellist, so he can contest the enemy jungler directly.
  • Spawns provide free wave and camp clear, keeping his farm efficiency high.
  • Very high skill ceiling — a good Set generates value an average one simply does not.

Where Set falls short

  • High execution requirement; poorly placed spawns waste his entire setup.
  • Weaker than other assassins when forced into a straightforward, no-setup fight.
  • His spawns are killable, so an attentive enemy can remove his teleport anchors.
  • The steep learning curve means he performs badly until spawn placement becomes instinctive.

Build and reasoning

Cooldown reduction is the highest-value stat on Set because spawns are a setup resource, and more spawns means more available angles. Beyond that his build follows standard assassin priorities — penetration over raw power, because his targets will be buying protections specifically to survive him.

Core build path

These are item roles rather than fixed product names, because specific items are rebalanced every patch and the reasoning behind a slot is not. Match each role to whatever currently fills it best.

  1. 1 Jungle starter
  2. 2 Cooldown and penetration item
  3. 3 Power and sustain item
  4. 4 Anti-heal physical item
  5. 5 Flat penetration
  6. 6 Late-game penetration

Situational purchases

Crowd-control reduction
You are being locked down during the engage window your setup created.
Defensive hybrid
You need to survive after the burst, which is where most Set deaths occur.
Percentage-health damage
The enemy frontline has stacked health and your flat burst is insufficient.

For the reasoning behind these stats — why penetration outperforms power against a built target, why anti-heal has to be bought before it feels necessary — see the item and stat reference and build fundamentals.

Counters and synergies

What beats Set

Area-damage gods
They clear his spawns incidentally, removing his teleport anchors before he can use them.
Anti-dive guardians
His angle is only useful if it ends in reaching the target.
Vision-heavy comps
Spawn placement is far less threatening when the enemy can watch it happen.

What Set works with

Lockdown supports
His angle creates the opening and a stun converts it into a kill.
Zone-control mages
An enemy pushed out of a damage zone into a waiting Set has nowhere to go.

Practical tips

  1. Place a spawn behind the enemy before you engage, not during. The teleport is a follow-up tool, not an opener.
  2. Use your ultimate at the start of a fight rather than as a panic button — the stats it grants are meant to win the fight, not escape one.
  3. In the solo lane, use spawns for wave clear while poking so your farm does not suffer from setup time.
  4. Spawns are killable. Place them slightly off the obvious path so an area ability does not clear them incidentally.

Frequently asked questions

Is Set good in SMITE 2?

A clone-based assassin whose spawns create teleport angles no other jungler can access. We place Set in A tier. Spawn teleports create engage angles from directions the enemy is not defending. The trade-off: high execution requirement; poorly placed spawns waste his entire setup.

What should I build on Set?

Cooldown reduction is the highest-value stat on Set because spawns are a setup resource, and more spawns means more available angles. Beyond that his build follows standard assassin priorities — penetration over raw power, because his targets will be buying protections specifically to survive him.

Who counters Set?

Area-damage gods: They clear his spawns incidentally, removing his teleport anchors before he can use them. Anti-dive guardians: His angle is only useful if it ends in reaching the target. Vision-heavy comps: Spawn placement is far less threatening when the enemy can watch it happen.

Is Set good for beginners?

Set is rated high difficulty. Very high. Spawn placement gives Set more genuine decision depth than almost any other jungler, and the gap between competent and expert is large.

When does Set power spike?
